New York Streets Urban Renewal Plan (first).
1947
Boston Housing Authority. The plan covers 13 acres, leads to demolishing 321 buildings and displacing 858 families in order to clear the area for industrial development. The first urban renewal project in Boston, it receives final approval in 1955. Land acquisition begins in July 1955 and the area is cleared by September 1957. The project is completed in 1964.
